WHEREAS, the Big Brothers Big Sisters program of Greater Pittsburgh seeks to provide children facing adversity with strong, enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships; and,
WHEREAS, through their participation in this program, Ms. Ecker and Mr. Richardson transformed the lives of their Little Siblings, Janiyah and Jayon, by offering academic and personal support; and,
WHEREAS, these mentoring relationships included tutoring, bowling, horseback riding, sharing meals, attending sporting events, celebrating birthdays together, visiting colleges, and ongoing guidance; and,
WHEREAS, with the help of their mentors, Janiyah and Jayon improved their academic performances, enjoyed new experiences, developed conflict resolution skills, became respected leaders, and prepared themselves for success; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Ecker and Mr. Richardson embody the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters, exemplifying the values of patience, support, and positive outcomes for children; and,
WHEREAS, these mentors’ ongoing dedication was essential in helping their Little Siblings achieve their goals; and,
WHEREAS, every child deserves to feel safe, cared for, and respected, and should be given ample opportunities to enjoy life and realize their potential; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the significant impact of Mr. J.J. Richardson’s and Ms. Lacee Ecker’s involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and recognizes the important contribution of the Big Brothers Big Sisters agency to the Pittsburgh community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 16th, 2019 to be “Pennsylvania Bigs of the Year Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
