WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh region fares worse than similar cities on indicators related to women's health, with fewer women accessing healthcare and higher rates of breast cancer; and,
WHEREAS, across the United States, some groups of women are seeing unexpected increases in mortality and earlier deaths than previous generations due a lack of economic security, safety, and health care access; and,
WHEREAS, even impressive technological advances in medicine can no longer countermand the overall poor health of the population for people suffering from lack of resources; and,
WHEREAS, several local legislators are leading the effort to address the real concerns and issues affecting the health and well-being of women in western Pennsylvania today; and,
WHEREAS, Representative Dan Frankel has founded and co-leads the Women's Health Caucus, and Senator Matt Smith and Representatives Erin Molchany are prime sponsors of bills in the Pennsylvania Agenda for Women's Health; a bundle of bi-partisan, bicameral, impactful legislation that will help western Pennsylvanians achieve economic stability and live healthier, longer lives; and,
WHEREAS, seven bills have been introduced thus far to help address the foundational issues that impact women's health: safety, economic security, and healthcare access; and,
WHEREAS, by addressing these issues and pushing for the proactive, pro-women, pro-family legislation that comprises the PA Agenda for Women's Health, local women can achieve economic stability and live healthier, longer lives.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh supports members of the Pennsylvania State Legislature's Women's Health Caucus and their groundbreaking approach to addressing the unique health needs and concerns of women.
