WHEREAS, John R. Gallo was born in Pittsburgh, in an area known as the 1st Ward and resided there on several streets close to Mercy Hospital, until eventually the family moved to the Knoxville section of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, John R. Gallo attended Forbes Elementary School, Fifth Avenue High School and evening classes at Connelley Trade School where he learned the 'art' of auto body repair; and
WHEREAS, throughout grade school and high school, John R. Gallo assisted in serving masses at Epiphany Church; and
WHEREAS, at the age of 13, John's love of music prompted him to begin several years of trumpet lessons; and
WHEREAS, at the age of 17, John R. Gallo began his career as a professional musician, and performed in almost every night club in Pittsburgh for many years; and
WHEREAS, John was often complemented by fellow musicians as having mastered the playing style of his trumpet idol, Harry James; and
WHEREAS, John's gift for music will now serve him well; and
WHEREAS, John R. Gallo opened his own auto body repair garage in the Allentown section of Pittsburgh in 1955 and did all of the auto body repairs himself and because of his reputation for perfection, many car dealerships sent the cars of their customers, who insisted on absolute satisfaction, to John's garage; and
WHEREAS, John closed his business in 1985; and
WHEREAS, John R. Gallo held the office of Democratic Committeeman for over 30 years and never missed an endorsement vote nor a day at the polls; and
WHEREAS, John R. Gallo served as a Trustee for the South Hills Italian Club for over 20 years; and
WHEREAS, John R. Gallo had been an early member of the South End Active Democrats organization; and
WHEREAS, John attended Sunday Mass at St. Paul's Monastery, the church he dearly loved, for over 40 years; and
WHEREAS, John's triumphs in life were many and, therefore, he will always be remembered with admiration, gratitude and love; and
