Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt for her passion and commitment to the Gospel community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 23, 2012, to be “Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt in many ways has served as an ambassador of Pittsburgh's gospel music community. In her own way she has made known the "Pittsburgh Sound" throughout the nation and world by performing in Europe and the West Indies ; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt has performed her original music at pre-musicals for national conventions such as the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc., the Congress of Christian Education, the National Lott Carey Foreign Mission Convention and the National Convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); and,
 
WHEREAS,  Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt received two Doctoral degrees one from the University of Pittsburgh chronicling the evolution of ethnomusicology as an academic discipline and the other from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary where her dissertation, "Mentoring African-American Female Teens: Christian Rites of Passage at First Baptist Penn Hills: A New Look at Teen Mentoring" was a ground breaking approach to the teen female spiritual formation; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt, served on the national faculty of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and the national board of the Gospel Music Educator's Seminar; where she conducted workshops and concerts throughout the nation ; and,    
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt, founder and director of "Dr. Sheila L. Johnson and Young People for Christ," mentored a local group of teens and recorded an album. In addition, she has remained the minister of music at First Baptist Penn Hills Church for the past 21 years; and,
