Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Polly Herron for four decades of exceptional service to the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh proclaims that Tuesday, May 20, 2008 be hereby declared “Polly Herron Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in 1964, Polly (Pringle) Herron began her career at Citiparks working in both the senior centers as well as the community recreation centers; and,
 
WHEREAS, having served the department with meritorious service for 44 years, with 34 of those years in the capacity of Recreation Center Director; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Herron coached, monitored and chaperoned countless boys and girls during the Arco Jesse Owens Games from Florida to California, including a trip to the 1984 Summer Olympic Games; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Herron has served in a coordinating role for every Great Race since its inception in 1977, every Hershey Track and Field event, and every community footrace; and,
 
WHEREAS, she has dutifully served seven City of Pittsburgh Mayors and six City of Pittsburgh Recreation Department Directors; and;
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Herron has personally touched the lives of more than 600,000 youth and adults during a 44-year career that concludes on May 23, 2008;
