WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. (PCSI) will join Community Action Partnership on Saturday, September 4, 2004 in Washington, D.C. at the Ellipse for the No Room for Poverty National Rally; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. is one of the designated anti-poverty Community Action Agencies (CAAs) of Community Action Partnership, the nation's largest anti-poverty organization, which boasts a 1,000-member network; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. is committed to changing the lives of the 100 million Americans living in or near poverty and those who are at risk of becoming poor; and
WHEREAS, Startling 2002 figures released by the U.S. Census Bureau show that one million more Americans lived in poverty in 2001 and that the U.S. median household income fell 1.1. percent; and
WHEREAS, Most alarming of all is that children, our most vulnerable citizens, continue to fall into the grip of poverty: 400,000 more children were living in poverty than in 2002 than in 2001; and
WHEREAS, As a part of the 40th Anniversary celebration of Community Action Partnership and its Annual Convention, the No Room for Poverty National Rally will address the problems of low-income Americans, by examining the key issues of poverty: jobs, housing, healthcare education and the Digital Divide; and
WHEREAS, The No Room for Poverty National Rally will also challenge the country to take action by calling for a White House Conference on American Poverty to legislate a national anti-poverty agenda; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsburgh City Council joins the sentiment of the No Room for Poverty National Rally by supporting the efforts of Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. when it is called upon to assist in eradicating poverty.
