WHEREAS, life’s most valuable of gifts are those that are difficult to calculate in material terms, given discreetly, and without thought of reward; and,

WHEREAS, a Banksville neighborhood resident for many years, son of Gloria and Vincent DiNuno, Tom DiNuno grew up in Edgeworth, PA; and,

 

WHEREAS, after graduating from Quaker Valley High School, Tom DiNuno served his nation as a member of the U.S. Army, from 1983 to 1986, stationed as a cook in Germany; and,

 

WHEREAS, Tom DiNuno began working for the Controller’s Office in January 1988, has taken on numerous responsibilities that monitor City government related expenditures and payments to City vendors; and,

 

WHEREAS, Tom DiNuno has worked for City Controllers Thomas Flaherty, Michael Lamb, and Rachael Heisler to provide the independent and objective oversight that protect City dollars from waste, fraud and abuse; and,

 

WHEREAS, Tom DiNuno embraces a new chapter in his life, so that he can devote more time traveling and attending more Pirate games (a season ticket holder for over 20 years) with his daughter Leah, son-in-law Tristan, and grandson Liam; and,

 

WHEREAS, the world has been changed by his work, a claim that not many can make, the perseverance by Tom DiNuno has distinguished himself in the humble, selfless acts that he does for others, exemplifying his dedication towards improving the quality of life for all people in the City of Pittsburgh; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Controller and Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor Tom DiNuno for his 36 years of work and dedicated contributions to the City of Pittsburgh, with wishes for a long and happy retirement filled with good health, friends, family, and laughter; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 24, 2024, to be “Tom DiNuno Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
