Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 23, 2015 to be "RaShall M. Brackney Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body
WHEREAS, a 31-year Pittsburgh Police veteran who has risen in the ranks of the force, Commander RaShall M. Brackney works to live the example of community policing; and,

WHEREAS, getting her start on the force as a patrol officer in 1984, Brackney was promoted to sergeant in 1995, whereupon only 20 months later on that job, she was promoted to lieutenant of Zones 1 and 2 and the Pittsburgh Police Training Academy; and,

WHEREAS, during her time as lieutenant of Zones 1 and 2, and of the Pittsburgh Police Training Academy, she authored and co-authored state acts requiring ethics training for all Pennsylvania law enforcement personnel; and,

WHEREAS, after being promoted to commander in 2000, Brackney has overseen operations of the Municipal Courts building, prisoner identification and processing, criminal records and more; later a transfer to the special deployment division put her in charge of Mounted Patrol, SWAT team, Accident Investigations, Hostage Negotiations and much more; eventually, she was reassigned to Zone 3, Zone 5 and was most recently in charge of Zone 1; and,

WHEREAS, in her spare time, Brackney serves as a founder and executive board member of the Homewood Children's Village and sits on boards for Operation Better Block in Homewood, The Heinz Endowments' African American Men and Boys Initiative, Amachi Pittsburgh, A Giving Heart and Manchester Academic Charter School; and,

WHEREAS, Brackney holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, holds numerous professional certificates and is in pursuit of a doctorate from Robert Morris University.; and,

WHEREAS, RaShall M. Brackney retired from the Pittsburgh Police Force in May 2015, after dedicating 31 years of exemplary service to the public as a distinguished officer.
