Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends these awardees for their commitment to racial equality and thanks the Greater Pittsburgh YWCA for recognizing these community leaders; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares November 16, 2009, “Racial Justice Awards Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Greater Pittsburgh YWCA is hosting its 18th annual Racial Justice Awards ceremony on November 16, 2009 to honor those in our community working to end racial disparity; and
 
WHEREAS, the YWCA honors these awardees for their work increasing appreciation of diversity and inclusion:
 
·      Grace Robinson, agent for State Farm Insurance and founder of Tomorrow's Future, Inc
·      Laurence Glasco, Associate Professor in the History Department at the University of Pittsburgh
·      Nueve Lunas
·      WQED Multimedia
·      Father Regis Ryan, Executive Director of Focus on Renewal
·      Lisa Thorpe-Vaughn, President and CEO of the Leadership Training Institute; and
 
WHEREAS, the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
