Resolution authorizing an extension of the term of the Acting Chief of Police for ninety (90) additional days, effective March 3, 2025.

Whereas, City Council authorized, by the passage of Resolution Number 52 of 2025, an extension of the term of Acting Chief of Police through March 3, 2025 and,

 

Whereas, Mayor Ed Gainey has submitted to Council, for its consideration, the nomination of Christopher Ragland as Chief of the Bureau of Police; and,

 

Whereas, the City has agreed to postpone confirmation proceedings pending the completion of a series of community forums; and,

 

Whereas, City Council is proceeding with the nomination process pursuant to its Rules, but is unlikely to complete the process prior to March 3, 2025.

 

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

 

Section 1.                     City Council hereby authorizes an extension of the acting term of Christopher Ragland, Acting Chief, Bureau of Police, Department of Public Safety, for ninety (90) days, effective March 3, 2025, to run through Monday, June 2, 2025.

 

Section 2.                     The Department of Public Safety shall coordinate with the public safety committees of the six (6) police zones to ensure full geographic coverage for the convenience of residents.

 

Section 3.                     The Director, Department of Public Safety, is authorized to expend departmental funds to support the implementation of the community forums, chargeable to and payable from the following account: 11101.510000.56.56151.2025.
