Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City if Pittsburgh does hereby commend Amen Corner for its relevant mission and for its ability to bring people of all walks of life together and congratulates Mary Sue Ramsden for becoming President for the 2011 year ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, April 28, 2011, to be “AMEN CORNER DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and,

WHEREAS, having existed for 141 years, the Amen Corner is one of the oldest organizations in the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County and continues to experience unprecedented growth in membership, board composition , diversity and member events ; and,

WHEREAS, in its infancy, the fraternity of men that was Amen Corner consisted of prominent , privileged men who included doctors, lawyers, judges, politicians and business leaders but in the 1980's, the organization admitted women and minorities and in 2001, inaugurated its first woman President ; and,

WHEREAS, Amen Corner today boasts another prominent woman as its President as Mary Sue Ramsden takes the helm of this historic organization for the 2011 year ; and,

WHEREAS, Mary Sue Ramsden is a founding partner of the law firm Raphael, Ramsden and Behers, a Tier One nationally rated law firm, and concentrates her practice in Family Law. She has an impressive resume, has been a leader in her profession and has received numerous professional awards including from the Pittsburgh Business Times, the PA Bar Association, the Women's Bar Association, Vectors and the YWCA.

WHEREAS, Amen Corner continues its tradition of networking in the greater Pittsburgh community through its event schedule that includes the Sen. John Heinz Law Enforcement Luncheon, the 2011 Judicial Reception, a New Member Meet and Greet, a Holiday Reception and its Scholarship Program.
