WHEREAS, Devin Gagliardi, a resident of Brookline, presently is a 9 year old fourth grader at St. Bernard School and the son of Wendi Harding and Louis Gagliardi; and
WHEREAS, Devin has been participating in BMX bicycle racing since 2001 and is a member of the South Park Cycle BMX team; and
WHEREAS, BMX racing is a sport where young racers develop their skills at their individual pace in a supportive family environment and will be a part of the 2008 Summer Olympic games; and
WHEREAS, Devin participated in the Grand National BMX rally in Louisville Kentucky sponsored by the National Bicycle League beating out more than 168 others to win every race in his division over the Labor Day weekend event; and
WHEREAS, since winning more than eight first-place national titles this past season Devin has advanced for the 9-year-old rookie level to novice, the next highest–ranking position in that class.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Devin Gagliardi for his achievements in BMX racing and wishes him continued success.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that today, Tuesday, October 7, 2003 be declared "Devin Gagliardi Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
