WHEREAS, Dan McQuillan was born and raised in the Lawrenceville Neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh. He holds an undergraduate degree in Administration of Justice from the University of Pittsburgh and a master degree in Public & Social Policy from Duquesne University where he first began work in the police field; and
WHEREAS, Dan spent a total of 10 years as a policeman with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. As the Zone 3 Crime Prevention Officer, he supervised many of the Community Oriented Police Officers and made sure that many of the COP programs and assignments were not left undone; and
WHEREAS, he dedicated many long hours, much of his own time to do what was needed for the community as well as the Bureau of Police. In addition to his normal duties, he taught a DARE program in the Pittsburgh Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, Dan was a professional police officer in every sense of the word. His work ethic was extraordinary. A sought out problem solver, he represented the Bureau with all the integrity, dignity and professionalism his position demanded; and
WHEREAS, Dan retired in late 2003. He and his wife Janet live in Brookline and are looking forward to spending much time together. His future ambitions are to teach and to continue making a difference in the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, on Tuesday June 1, 2004, Pittsburgh City Council in attendance with representatives from all the community groups in District 3 are gathering together to honor and recognize Zone 3 Crime Prevention Officer Dan McQuillan for his work in the community and celebrate his retirement from the police force.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and thank Officer Dan McQuillan on his years of dedication and service going beyond the call of duty for each and every resident in Zone 3, congratulates him on his retirement and wishes him the best in all of his future endeavors.
