WHEREAS, The Federation of War Veterans Societies of Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh will hold its 106th Annual Veterans Day Parade, the longest continuously
running Veterans Day Parade in the United States, on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 10:30AM beginning at the intersection of 10th St and Liberty Avenue, celebrating Vietnam Veterans with the theme of Welcome Home! and,
WHEREAS, the Grand Marshal this year is Vietnam Veteran Andrew Nigut. Mr. Nigut enlisted in the US Marine Corps in January of 1968. Boot Camp was at Parris Island followed by Advanced Infantry and M60 machine gun training at Camp LeJeune and then Guerilla Warfare Training in California; and,
WHEREAS, in July 1968, Andy was stationed in An Hoa, Vietnam. On October 6, the NVA launched a fierce attack at Charlie Ridge. By October 9, while manning his M60, Andy was critically wounded by a rocket-propelled grenade, suffering severe facial injuries and losing consciousness. Unable to breathe, he was aided by a corpsman and medevacked to Da Nang, where a tracheotomy allowed him to breath and emergency surgeries stabilized him. He later received extensive maxillofacial treatment; and,
WHEREAS, from 1968 through 1974, he has endured 23 surgeries. Rather than giving up, Andy's phenomenal will to survive and the incredible medical care provided by the military, have enabled him to go to college, earn 3 degrees, marry, raise a family and help numerous veterans in his professional career. Truly a remarkable story; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor and pay tribute to the men and women who serve and have served in our armed forces and solemnly remember the sacrifice of all those who fought so valiantly to preserve our heritage of freedom; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, November 11 to be "Federation of War Veterans Societies Day" in the City of Pittsbu...
