WHEREAS, at the USA Boxing Annual Meeting on October 16, 2004 in Charlotte, North Carolina, the National "Grassroots Award" was presented to local Boxing Legend, Chuck Senft, from Brookline; and
WHEREAS, Chuck was selected as the Allegheny Mountain Association's nominee for 2003 due to his extensive dedication and service to the sport of amateur boxing for over 50 years.; and
WHEREAS, The "Grassroots Award" is presented to individuals for outstanding services and support of Local Amateur Boxing Programs; and
WHEREAS, in 1957 Chuck Senft started a boxing team at Moore Park; and
WHEREAS, in 1971, the boxing team was moved to Brookline Memorial Park where it continued for the next 32 years; and
WHEREAS, Chuck lead the Brookline Boxing Club to multiple championship wins, but more importantly he affected the lives of more than 8,000 young men and women by providing a positive direction to keep kids off the streets and out of trouble; and
WHEREAS, Last year, along with many other Parks & Recreation programs, the Brookline Boxing Club was unable to continue due to the City of Pittsburgh budget cuts; and
WHEREAS, Chuck has continued to support amateur boxing in this area by volunteering his time at local boxing events and tournaments as an official weighmaster or judge.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates Chuck Senft for receiving the USA Boxing National "Grassroots Award".
