Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Vintage Grand Prix for providing all city residents with ten days of excitement, bringing the top vintage cars out for the public to view for thirty years, and for pursuing their philanthropic duty as a fundraiser for the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares Saturday, July 21, 2012, to be “Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is committed to producing a world-class vintage racing event in order to raise funds to provide residential care, treatment and support for developmentally disabled individuals in the Pittsburgh region; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, attended by over 250,000 people during a 10 day schedule of vintage sports car racing and motorsports activities, holds the dual distinction of America's largest vintage race event and the only one that's raced on city streets; and,
 
WHEREAS, the funds raised by this event benefit developmentally disabled individuals at the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School and have totaled nearly $3 million dollars since its inception in 1983; and,
 
WHEREAS, this year's 30th Vintage Grand Prix, presented by Shop n' Save and synonymous with Schenley Park, will feature 10 days of special events including a Kick Off Rallye, a Blacktie Gala, PVGP Historic Races at PIRC, Car Shows and Cruises in Shadyside, Squirrel Hill and Downtown, a Tune up at Bossa Nova, and, of course, Race Day; and,
 
WHEREAS, for the first time in the Vintage Grand Prix's history, there will be a Squirrel Hill Parade and Race Car Display on July 20th  along Beacon Street, Forbes Avenue, Shady Avenue and Wightman Street, which will exhibit approximately 75 race and sponsor cars and the MG Marque of the Year.
