Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize APOST and the importance of Out-of-School Time (OST); and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, July 16, 2025 to be "National Summer Learning Day" in the City of Pittsburgh

WHEREAS, Summer Learning Week is a national celebration dedicated to elevating the importance of summer learning by working together to keep kids safe and healthy and ensure they return to school ready to succeed; and,

 

WHEREAS, this year’s campaign is hosted by The National Summer Learning Association and takes place July 14-18; and,

 

WHEREAS, on behalf of summer programs in Allegheny County, Allegheny Partners for Out-of-School Time (APOST) and Bridge to Learn will be celebrating the importance of summer learning locally on Wednesday, July 16 at H.O.P.E. for Tomorrow (Sheraden) and Boys and Girls Club of Southwestern Pennsylvania (Carnegie). They will highlight their summer programming and other mobile summer programs will share about their learning activities; and, 

 

WHEREAS, more than half of students in the United States experience summer learning losses five years in a row and lose nearly 40 percent of their school year gains. By collaborating with providers and coalitions such as Bridge to Learn, APOST strengthens and advocates for high-quality, sustainable Out-of-School Time (OST) experiences so that all youth thrive; and,

 

WHEREAS, summer is a critical time for students to develop academically, socially and emotionally, and summer programs help close the achievement gaps that disproportionately affect low-income youth. APOST is committed to expanding access to high-quality summer learning opportunities across our region; and,
