WHEREAS, Dr. Sheila L. Johnson is an ordained Baptist minister, songwriter/arranger, choral conductor, recording artist and a college professor. A native of Dayton, Ohio, she holds a bachelor degree in music and master’s degree with emphasis in counseling from Western Kentucky University; earned doctor of philosophy from University of Pittsburgh and an earned doctor of ministry degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson has served at the minister of music at First Baptist Church Penn Hills and Second Baptist Church Leechburg for over 30 years; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson has had many original compositions and arrangements presented at Gospel Music Workshop of America New Music Seminar and International Mass Choir; Hampton University's Ministers Conference and Music Guild, National Baptist Convention USA, Inc., National NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Convention; National Lott Carey Foreign Mission Convention; and,
WHEREAS, in 2018, her 8th recording, a single entitled “Freedom” debut on the Billboard Hot Singles Chart at #9, and was #1 for 6 weeks on the international charts including England, Uganda, and Scotland just to name a few; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson is the Executive Producer of the recording “First Baptist Penn Hills Alive in Worship: Volume I”, and is the founder and director of the community choir “Dr. Sheila Johnson and Young People for Christ”; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Dr. Sheila Johnson for spreading the Gospel through song; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 7, 2019, to be “Dr. Sheila L. Johnson Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
