WHEREAS, hundreds of area agencies have worked continuously with Dominion Peoples, Columbia Gas and Equitable Gas to administer the Low-income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP); and
WHEREAS, the agencies and natural gas companies work throughout the year to help provide warmth for the winter; and
WHEREAS, families and communities are in need of increased LIHEAP funding and the knowledge about how to apply for funding; and
WHEREAS, the agencies of Dominion Peoples, Columbia and Equitable Gas Company collectively have helped provide hundreds of thousands of people resources to help stay warm; and
WHEREAS, there is power in numbers working toward a common goal of promoting LIHEAP awareness and helping those in need;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, November 12, 2008, as "LIHEAP DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
