WHEREAS, The University Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR) was established in 1972 at the University of Pittsburgh to serve as a resource for researchers and educators; and
WHEREAS, this year, UCSUR is celebrating its 40th year of remarkable service to the community through its work in surveys, qualitative data analysis, visual analysis, and multidisciplinary research; and
WHEREAS, UCSUR's special focus on social and regional problems has made it a critical resource for local planners; and
WHEREAS, UCSUR has completed hundreds of studies documenting the region's strengths and weaknesses and democratizing access to essential information that can be used to lead the city forward; and
WHEREAS, UCSUR's research includes economic impact studies for developers' projects, neighborhood profiles based on the 2010 United States Census, Regional Quality of Life survey results, and much more; and
WHEREAS, the work performed by UCSUR is rare among U.S. cities, and has allowed Pittsburgh to make key decisions in a more informed and data-driven environment.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize UCSUR for its 40 years of work producing the highest quality research; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 30, 2013 to be "UCSUR Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
