Title: WHEREAS, the Holiday Bar opened to the gay community in 1969 in an era when gay bars hid in plain sight with boarded windows and no signage before GBLT organizations existed and gay activism and gay rights occurred in the bars; and, WHEREAS; the Holiday Bar was at the center of the Florida Orange Juice Boycott when celebrity, Anita Bryant, launched a vicious anti-gay campaign in which the Florida Citrus Commission failed to renew her contract and the Holiday Bar mobilized the Pittsburgh Gay Community; and, WHEREAS, the first owner was Robert "Lucky" Johns and who sold it to Pete and George Leventis and was finally purchased by its most recent owners, Tom Guzzi, Chuck Tierney , Chuck Honse ; and, WHEREAS, the Holiday Bar has flourished under the current ownership of Chuck Honse and Chuck Tierney and has been a vital and vibrant influence in equal rights for all for more than 30 years. WHEREAS, the Holiday Bar opened to the gay community in 1969 in an era when  gay bars hid in plain sight with boarded windows and no signage before GBLT organizations existed and gay activism and gay rights occurred in the bars; and,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the contribution the principals of the Holiday Bar have made to gay rights, civil rights, acceptance and tolerance in the City of Pittsburgh ; and
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh notes the closing of the Holiday Bar and does hereby declare April 24, 2007, to be HOLIDAY BAR DAY in the City of Pittsburgh.
