WHEREAS, Ten years ago the North Side Christian Health Center opened its doors on East Ohio Street as a faith based primary-care center for residents with or without health insurance striving to provide whole-person health care to an underserved community; and
WHEREAS, The North Side Christian Health Center provides standard primary health care services as well as pharmacy services, mental-health counseling services, and drug and alcohol counseling; and
WHEREAS, Since the Health Center opened in 1995, the number of patients has steadily increased, surpassing 10,700 visits in 2004; and
WHEREAS, the Health Center employs a Patient Advocate who assists low income residents who lack health insurance with payment options as well as with other non-medical needs such as obtaining help with utility bills and Department of Public Welfare requests; and
WHEREAS, In honor of the North Side Christian Health Center's tenth anniversary, a benefit banquet featuring comedian Judy Savoy will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 enabling the Center to continue to deliver high-quality healthcare to Pittsburgh's medically underserved; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh acknowledges and commends the North Side Christian Health Center and their outstanding commitment to the health and mental well-being of the residents of the City of Pittsburgh.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Wednesday, November 16, 2005 as "The North Side Christian Health Center Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
