Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh Congratulates Mrs. Edith Henderson on winning the Jefferson Award and thanks her for her untiring commitment and dedication to the students and faculty of. Langley High School.

WHEREAS, the Jefferson Awards were established in 1972 by the American Institute for Public Service to recognize those who performed remarkable deeds in community service without expectation of reward or recognition; and
 
WHEREAS, on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at Carnegie Music Hall, an awards ceremony, sponsored by The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, WQED Multimedia and the Pittsburgh Foundation Community Champions,  Mrs. Edith Henderson was among eight volunteers to receive the Jefferson Award for her unselfish dedication to the students of Langley High School; and
 
WHEREAS, for nine years Mrs. Henderson has traveled from her home in Penn Hill to Langley High School in the Sheraden Neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh to be at her desk in the front entrance of the school by 6:30 A.M.; and
 
WHEREAS, at her post Mrs. Henderson is greeter, sentry and "grandma" to the students and faculty alike;  she has even stopped Pittsburgh schools Superintendent Mark Roosevelt and former Superintendent John Thompson and made them sign in before entering the building; and
