Title
WHEREAS, Jessica King is leaving the role of Executive Director of the Union Project after five years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, before joining the Union Project staff, Jessica served as the Executive Director of Pittsburgh Urban Leadership Service Experience (PULSE) and as Interim Assistant Editor for the magazine of the national Mennonite Church; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure at the Union Project, Jessica led the organization's $3 million renovation projects and helped to establish sustainable, long-term programming; and
WHEREAS, under her leadership, over 2,000 volunteers have contributed over 20,000 volunteer hours and hundreds of young donors have made financial contributions; and
WHEREAS, over 150 people have participated in a class that the Union Project offers to help restore its 100-year old stained glass windows; and
WHEREAS, Jessica has received numerous awards in recognition of her work as director, including the James A. Richards Servanthood Award from the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation, a Promise Award from the Young Preservationists Association, Historic Preservation awards from Pittsburgh City Council, and a 2006 40 Under 40 recognition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks Jessica King for her dedication to improving the quality of life in Pittsburgh's East End neighborhoods; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 4, 2007, "Jessica King Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
