Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Malika Fields' victory in the Miss Ebony Teenage Queen pageant and wish her the best of luck in attain her goal of working in broadcast journalism; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 19th, 2012 Malika Fields Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Miss Ebony Teenage Queen pageant has been a staple in the African American community for nearly forty years, when it was founded as the Miss Black Teenage Queen pageant in 1973; and
 
WHEREAS, participants in the Miss Ebony Teenage Queen are encouraged to embrace all models and standards of beauty, including beauty of personal character and of intellect; and
 
WHEREAS, participants in the Miss Ebony Teenage Queen Pageant participate in an extended weekend program, in which they dedicate themselves to honing their interviewing skills, connecting with community leaders, and working to laying the foundation for lifelong accomplishments; and
 
WHEREAS, this year's Miss Ebony Teenage Queen, Stanton Heights resident, Malika Fields, stands as an admirable example of a leader in her community, and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Fields is a pageant veteran, having been previously recognized as Miss Princess, the Miss Ebony Teen Queen Pageant's sister pageant for girls younger than thirteen years old, and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Fields, a student at the Pittsburgh School for the Creative and Performing Arts, is interested in pursuing a career in news broadcasting, and has applied many of the skills learned participating in Miss Ebony Teenage Queen toward achieving this goal, and
