WHEREAS, in honor of Autism Acceptance Month, Pittsburgh Langley PreK-8 is holding its 2nd annual Autism Walk scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM; and,

WHEREAS, the walk will commence at the cafeteria entrance of Pittsburgh Langley and wind its way to the playground, providing participants with a chance to stroll, converse, and connect with fellow community members while demonstrating solidarity with individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD); and,
WHEREAS, Autism affects the normal development of the brain in areas of social interaction communication skills, and cognitive function and generally appears before the age of three. The most recent data from the Pennsylvania Autism Census Project estimates more than 55,000 individuals on the spectrum across the state; and,
WHEREAS, the 2nd Annual Autism Walk aims to foster understanding, and promote inclusivity. The event not only shows support for those living with ASD but also celebrates the unique talents and perspectives that individuals with autism have, while sending a powerful message of acceptance where everyone is valued and respected for who they are; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Pittsburgh Langley PreK-8 for coming together to create a more inclusive and understanding community for individuals with autism and their families; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Thursday, April 18, 2024 to be “Pittsburgh Langley Autism Walk Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
