WHEREAS, Mr. William Sell came to Pittsburgh in 1948 to work for PPG Industries; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sell started Will Sell Chocolates in 1986 on Walnut Street in Shadyside after retiring from PPG in 1984; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sell became active in the Walnut Street Chamber of Commerce as a merchant in 1986; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sell continued to volunteer for the Chamber of Commerce even after selling his store in 1994; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sell is passionate about jazz music and he works to promote jazz festivals and performance opportunities in Shadyside; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sell has two sons and two grandchildren and currently resides on Fifth Avenue in Shadyside; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sell's efforts help to make the neighborhood more attractive to visitors and shoppers by improving the environment of the business district; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of Mr. Sell's and his wife's contributions to the Shadyside business district, efforts are being made to rename the parklet on Walnut Street the "Jane and Will Sell Parklet."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh sincerely thanks Will Sell for his dedication to improving his community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares April 10, 2007, "Will Sell Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
