WHEREAS, Mr. Ganassi is well known for his innovation and research programs that support the development of better cars and drivers; and
WHEREAS, in 2010, Ganassi-owned cars won the Daytona 500, the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400, making Chip Ganassi the first team owner to win the "Triple Crown" of American auto racing; and
WHEREAS, prior to his career as an owner, Mr. Ganassi had a successful career as a racecar driver which included being the fastest rookie qualifier and posting a 15th place finish at the 1982 Indianapolis 500; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ganassi is a former part-owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ganassi and his team have donated nearly half a million dollars to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Chip Ganassi for his commitment to excellence in the sport of auto racing and congratulates him on the unprecedented set of wins that his team achieved this year; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare August 31, 2010 to be "Chip Ganassi Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
