WHEREAS, chartered by Kiwanis International on May 10, 1951, the Kiwanis Club of Sheraden, Pittsburgh has continuously served children and the Sheraden and West Pittsburgh communities for 75 years. Its members are residents, former residents, and friends from across western PA;
WHEREAS, each year, the Kiwanis Club of Sheraden contribute thousands of volunteer hours. Annual events include an Easter Egg Hunt, a Health, Safety and Fun Fair, and scholarships for community-minded local high school seniors. The club also maintains the Sheraden bulletin board, neighborhood portal signs, and American flags and other seasonal flag displays, and oversees the Kiwanis Korner shelter, located at the intersection of Hillsboro Street and Sheraden Boulevard, for community events;
WHEREAS, the club co-hosts the Sheraden Community Picnic, Sheraden Scares Halloween event, and Sheraden Shines winter celebration with the Sheraden Community Council; supports neighborhood clean-up and beautification with the Community Council and Sheraden Neighbors; sponsors Books for Babies for mothers at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital; and collects can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House at UPMC Children's Hospital;
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Sheraden sponsors five Service Leadership Programs: Aktion Club with City Connections program for young adults with intellectual or other non-visible disabilities; Builders Clubs at Pittsburgh Langley PreK-8 and Pittsburgh Classical Academy; Key Club at Upper St. Clair High School; and Circle K at Carnegie Mellon University-each offering students community service opportunities and leadership development;
WHEREAS, major fundraisers include an annual Pancake Breakfast and a spring Pasta Dinner, offering affordable food and fellowship, and the Kiwanis Klassic Golf Outing, featuring a round of golf, appreciation luncheon, prizes, and awards;
