Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and salutes The Marriage Works for promoting the integrity, tradtions and values of healthy marriages and families; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, March 30, 2008, to be “BLACK MARRIAGE DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Marriage Works is a partnership of the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry, National Fatherhood Initiative, and Family Guidance Inc. and provides counseling, skills and guidance to African-American couples and their children in order to help them develop and sustain healthy relationships; and ,
 
WHEREAS, on March 30, 2008, The Marriage Works and many local organizations will celebrate Black Marriage Day to reaffirm the value of marriage, which as a binding public commitment becomes the foundation of healthy families, healthy children, and a healthy community; and,
 
WHEREAS, in support of 5,000 couples across the country who will renew their wedding vows on Black Marriage Day, March 30, 2008, with the themes: Getting Married is Good; Staying Married is Better; A Healthy Marriage is Best; and
 
WHEREAS, The Marriage Works is hosting free marriage education classes throughout 2008; and,
