WHEREAS, in 1975, Father Leo Henry of St. Lawrence O'Toole Parish in Garfield gathered community members to form and fund the beginnings of the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation (BGC) and The Bloomfield-Garfield Bulletin; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the BGC and The Bulletin began as a way to create and perpetuate understanding and acceptance between the different groups within the community; and
WHEREAS, since their inception, the BGC and The Bulletin have successfully supported the neighborhood voice and revolutionized the strength of neighborhood activism; and
WHEREAS, the BGC has invested millions of dollars into projects that grow and support the communities' residents and businesses; and
WHEREAS, for the past thirty-five years, the BGC and The Bulletin have remained a source and stimulant of community involvement and commitment by actively addressing and solving community issues and problems in order to work towards better physical, economic, and social conditions within the neighborhoods; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation and The Bulletin for thirty-five years of successes and their continued efforts to revitalize and improve the neighborhoods of Bloomfield, Garfield, and Friendship while serving as an inspiration to surrounding communities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare in the City of Pittsburgh, Tuesday, December 14, 2010, a day to celebrate the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation and The Bulletin.
