WHEREAS, Mary Alice Lucot has devoted 39 years of teaching service to the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, the last year as Principal of Cardinal Wright Regional School on the North Side; and
WHEREAS, at the end of this year, as Cardinal Wright Regional School closes, so does this chapter in Miss Lucot's career, and she begins her retirement; and
WHEREAS, Miss Lucot, daughter of Richard and Faith Lucot, was raised on the North Side, and attended Duquesne University for undergraduate and Penn State for graduate work; and
WHEREAS, Father Ralph Tajak, Pastor of Saint Peters Parish, says,
"Miss Lucot has always demonstrated her love and concern for the students in her eighth grade class, as well as all of the students throughout the school. I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity of working with Mary Alice, during the years I have been associated with Cardinal Wright Regional School."

WHEREAS, Mrs. Barbara Muschar, first grade teacher at Cardinal Wright Regional School, says,
"Mary Alice could change the minds and hearts of her students. She has a keen sense of how to change a child into a young adult, with her gentle but firm guidance."
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Colin Styche attests, "As a former student, I feel that Miss Lucot was an excellent teacher and I enjoyed being in her class of '96"; and
WHEREAS, such an illustrious career by such a hardworking, dedicated, passionate teacher, who has received the Golden Apple Award from the Pittsburgh Diocese, should be recognized as an example for teachers to come; and
WHEREAS, Miss Lucot will be honored at a luncheon on Tuesday, June 7, 2011;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the illustrious career of Mary Alice Lucot, and hereby declares June 7, 2011, to be "Mary Alice Lucot Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
