Title: WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is holding two events this spring as part of the organization's 2006-2007 Year of Advocacy; and WHEREAS, the first of these events is a presentation on Teen Dating Violence that will feature a domestic abuse survivor and the NCJW Chair of the Silent Witness Initiative, Joanne Witkowski, and will be held in the NCJW offices on Murray Avenue on Sunday, April 29th; and WHEREAS, dating violence can occur in the context of casual dating or in long-term relationships, and can take many forms including psychological, emotional and physical abuse; and WHEREAS, the second event is a Poverty Simulation that will be conducted in partnership with the Pittsburgh Social Venture Partners and the Jewish Community Center (JCC) on Sunday, May 6th at the JCC; and WHEREAS, the Poverty Simulation is a unique and interactive learning experience that will provide insight into the challenges that many working families who earn poverty-level wages face...

WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is holding two events this spring as part of the organization's 2006-2007 Year of Advocacy; and
WHEREAS, the first of these events is a presentation on Teen Dating Violence that will feature a domestic abuse survivor and the NCJW Chair of the Silent Witness Initiative, Joanne Witkowski, and will be held in the NCJW offices on Murray Avenue on Sunday, April 29th; and

WHEREAS, NCJW is a volunteer organization, inspired by Jewish values, that works to improve the quality of life for women, children and families and to ensure individuals rights and freedoms for all through its network of 90,000 members, supporters, and volunteers nationwide; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh section of NCJW received the Building Bridges Award from the National Council of Jewish Women, Inc. at the triennial Washington Institute in Washington D.C.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends NCJW for its dedication to improving the quality of life for women, children and families; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares April 17, 2007, "NCJW Year of Advocacy Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
