Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend StarKist and Dongwon Industries; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, August 14, 2018, to be "StarKist and Dongwon Industries' Korean War Veterans of Western Pennsylvania Recognition Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on August 14, 2018, StarKist will be hosting its Korean War Memorial Luncheon at the Pittsburgh Sheraton Hotel to honor Korean War veterans from Western Pennsylvania ; and,

 

WHEREAS, according to the Pentagon, 36,914 American servicemen lost their lives during the Korean War and another 103,284 soldiers were wounded in action; and, 

 

WHEREAS, StarKist has hosted this luncheon as a meaningful event to honor those who served and risked their lives in the Korean War; and, 

 

WHEREAS, the event began when Chairman Jae-chul Kim of Dongwon Industries wished to show his continued appreciation of the Korean War Veterans; and,

 

WHEREAS, 2018 marks the 65th anniversary of the end of the Korean War; and,

 

WHEREAS, this year, three veterans will be recognized for receiving Silver Star Medals for their gallantry in action during the Korean War; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend StarKist and Dongwon Industries; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, August 14, 2018, to be “StarKist and Dongwon Industries’ Korean War Veterans of Western Pennsylvania Recognition Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
