WHEREAS, Raymond "Ray" Rippole, a native of McKees Rocks and Stowe Township and a proud graduate of Sto-Rox High School, was inspired by a family legacy of public service-most notably his great-grandfather, who served with the Pittsburgh Police Department in the 1950s; his father, a Neville Township Police Officer; and his great-uncle, who attained the rank of Captain in the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office; and
WHEREAS, since joining the Pittsburgh Police Department in 1997, Commander Rippole has continuously risen through the ranks, serving honorably as patrol officer, Sergeant in the Traffic Division, Lieutenant, and ultimately Commander of Zone 6 in the West End and in addition, the commander is Lead Motorcycle Instructor in the Pittsburgh region, including small departments from North Carolina and Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Commander Rippole has embodied the spirit of community policing, actively engaging with residents, participating in Easter Egg Hunts, Halloween outings, and Christmas celebrations, and fostering partnerships with organizations such as Tree of Hope and Save A Life Today (SALT) Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, his dedication has extended beyond daily service, including overseeing special events and safeguarding peaceful protests, and, in July 2024, sustaining injury while courageously responding to the failed assassination attempt on then candidate Donald J. Trump; and
WHEREAS, Ray and his wife Lori have raised three children-Ray Jr., Nicholas, and Carmella-instilling in them the same values of service and civic engagement that have defined his life; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Commander Raymond "Ray" Rippole for his unwavering commitment, exemplary public service, and ongoing contributions to the safety and welfare across our communities; and
