Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the Feast of St. Anthony of Padova and thanks the organizing committee for its efforts in presenting the festival; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 7, 2009, “Feast of St. Anthony of Padova Day” in the City of Pittsburgh. lares June 7, 2009, “Feast of St. Anthony of Padova Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Feast of St. Anthony of Padova will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at St. Stanislaus Kotska Church in the Strip District; and
 
WHEREAS, the event begins with a Soleman Mass said in Italian and presided over by His Excellency Bishop Emeritus Anthony G. Bosco; and
 
WHEREAS, mass will be followed by a procession down Smallman Street with a statue of St. Anthony; and
 
WHEREAS, the festival will include food, the music of the Franco Gallellli Band, dancing in the street and a Zambelli fireworks display at dusk; and
 
WHEREAS, there is free admission to the festival and everyone is welcome to attend; and
 
WHEREAS, St. Anthony is the patron saint of lost and stolen items, the poor and travelers; and
 
WHEREAS, St. Anthony died in 1231 at the age of 36 and was canonized a year later by Gregory IX.
