WHEREAS, the Manchester Youth Development Center (MYDC) was co-founded by Dr. Betty and Dr. James Robinson in 1972 out of the former Bidwell Education Music & Recreation Center to address the education and general support needs of Manchester youth; and,
WHEREAS, the current goal of the multi-faceted program of MYDC is to provide education, artistic, and recreational experiences to predominately minority disadvantaged children between the ages of 3 and 18 years; and,
WHEREAS, the MYDC program is in operation five days a week for a minimum of 3 ½ hours each day during the school calendar year and also includes a special six week, six hours per day high impact summer program, with the MYDC currently serving 185 children and youth in the after school academic component; and,
WHEREAS, the 2nd MYDC Gala will be held on Saturday, June 5th from 7pm-11pm at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture, the Honorary Chairs being the Honorable Judge Dwayne Woodruff and his wife, with entertainment provided by Howie Alexander, DC Chandler, Flo Wilson and the Old School Band;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Manchester Youth Development Center for its important social contribution to the youth of Manchester; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 1, 2010 to be "Manchester Youth Development Center Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
