WHEREAS, on December 3, 2009, Chatham University will observe the 140th anniversary of it founding as Pennsylvania Female College; and
WHEREAS, Chatham College for Women is one of the oldest women's colleges in the United States and is the alma mater to thousands of women leaders; and
WHEREAS, Chatham University prepares its students to excel in their professions and to be engaged, environmentally responsible, globally conscious, life-long learners; and
WHEREAS, the University's undergraduate and graduate student body of over 2,200 represents twenty-eight states and eighteen other countries, and minority groups and international students compose 20 percent of the undergraduate student body; and
WHEREAS, Chatham University is devoted to creating citizen leaders for democracy and proudly continues to build its history and tradition of excellence in women's education in order to meet society's changing needs.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Chatham University's 140th anniversary and thanks the college for encouraging scholarship, leadership and civic duty; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares December 3, 2009, "Chatham University Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
