WHEREAS, Syed Farooq Hussaini was born in Hyderbad, India, moved to the United States in 1985 and lived with his wife Karen Muchow Hussaini in Avalon; and
WHEREAS, Farooq Hussaini came to America with the dream of healing religious divisions; and
WHEREAS, his warmth and kindness always promoted that dream by endearing him to people of diverse religions, whether it was through personal conversations or lectures; and
WHEREAS, Farooq Hussaini, as the director of interfaith relations for the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh, forged bonds that united peoples of all faiths; and
WHEREAS, he used his time undergoing treatments to reflect upon the importance of his religion and the peaceful outlook it inspired
WHEREAS, Mr. Farooq Hussaini received numerous awards including the Thomas Merton New People Award, the YWCA Racial Justice Award and the Pittsburgh North Anti-racism Coalition Diversity award
WHEREAS, Mr. Farooq Hussaini was recognized in the Pittsburgh magazine, on KDKA, on WYEP, on QED and WPXI and his photograph was selected to appear on the Port Authority Transit buses as a Pittsburgher "who makes a difference;" and
WHEREAS, the people of various faiths that have joined together to celebrate his life is a testament to the success he met in his life's work.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City Pittsburgh honors and remembers Syed Farooq Hussaini for his persistence and dedication; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 8, 2008 "Syed Farooq Hussaini Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
