Whereas, the Southwestern PA AIDS Planning Coalition will mark the Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS with special worship and educational programs beginning Friday, March 4, 2005 ; and
Whereas, the Coalition joins thousands of churches across the nation, in Africa and the Caribbean in observing the Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS in the effort to stop the transmission of HIV/AIDS and provide compassion for people affected by the decease; and
Whereas, AIDS is the leading cause of death for Black Americans ages 25 - 44. Out of every 50 Black men, one is living with HIV. For black woman, one in 160 is living with HIV; and
Whereas, the Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, an international program sponsored by The Balm in Gilead, a non--profit organization based in New York City assists churches throughout the USA; and
Whereas, the goal is to provide prayer, leadership, compassion for information to help the families in local congregations and communities who are impacted by HIV/AIDS.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council in the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and commends the Southwestern Pennsylvania AIDS Planning Coalition for continuing to educate the community on the affect of the HIV/AIDS virus.
