WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh has been designated a Tree City USA for over 20 consecutive years by the Arbor Day Foundation. This recognition highlights Pittsburgh's commitment to urban forestry, a testament to our unwavering commitment to maintaining and enhancing our urban tree canopy;
WHEREAS, we acknowledge our Pittsburgh Forestry Division, a specialized unit of the Department of Public Works, which is dedicated to ensuring a safe and healthy urban canopy for current and future generations;
WHEREAS, we also acknowledge the collaborative efforts of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, Tree Pittsburgh's Tree Tenders, and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy in nurturing our urban forest;
WHEREAS, trees are a vital part of our community, providing shade, beauty, and improved air quality, while also conserving energy, reducing stormwater runoff, and supporting wildlife;
WHEREAS, the planting and care of trees contribute to the health, resilience, and sustainability of our city for present and future generations;
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh has demonstrated a commitment to urban forestry through community initiatives, public engagement, and environmental stewardship;
WHEREAS, Arbor Day encourages all citizens to recognize the importance of trees and to participate in planting, nurturing, and celebrating them, fostering civic pride and inspiring individuals, families, schools, and organizations to take part in enhancing our urban canopy;
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh is celebrating the observance of Arbor Day on April 18 at the West End Overlook Park located on Marlow Street in Elliott. Enjoy tree plantings, a kids' climb, music, tree giveaways and much more at one of the best views in the city;
