WHEREAS, Susan Lucas was born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and grew up alongside her younger sister, Jenny. She spent cherished summers with her father in Cape May, New Jersey; and,
WHEREAS, she graduated from Oley Valley High School in 1984 and relocated to Pittsburgh to pursue higher education at the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned a degree in Communications and Marketing, with a minor in Psychology; and,
WHEREAS, Susan began working in the restaurant and service industry at 15, dedicating over 25 years to the field. Her hard work funded her college education and first home, fueling her passion for serving Pittsburgh's residents. She quickly fell in love with the city and its vibrant, welcoming community; and,
WHEREAS, she proudly participated in the 1998 Mascot Skate as "Needles the Bear" in support of the Central Blood Bank. Susan began her tenure with the City of Pittsburgh and CitiParks on January 7, 2019, as an Administrative Aide. She was promoted to Communications Specialist for the Department of Parks & Recreation on December 20, 2021; and,
WHEREAS, since May 2024, she has served as Project Manager for CitiParks, overseeing projects for the Department of Parks and Recreation and serving as the I&P liaison for tech initiatives. She supports DPW Facilities maintenance, manages CitiParks webpages, assists with events, and collaborates with a variety of community partners to bring youth and adult programming to the City of Pittsburgh. Her current priority is launching RecDesk, the new permitting and CMS platform. Her only regret: not joining city service sooner; and,
WHEREAS, Susan is married to Eric Lucas, and together they share a daughter, Presley. Their household includes two beloved dogs-Georgia and Bean-and three cats-Ribbon, Tiger, and Bandit. A passionate University of Pittsburgh fan, Susan once cheered so enthusiastically at a game that a seasoned Penn State supporter asked her to leave early; and,
