Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby commends the YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh ENCOREplus program's dedication and encouragement for women and their families in their fight against breast cancer.

Whereas, The Pink Ribbon Luncheon and fashion show is being celebrated on October 18 at the Marriott City which has uniquely brought attention to breast cancer awareness as we approach October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; and,

 

Whereas, Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, other than skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.  203,500 women were diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2002 and about 39,800 women will die from the disease; and 

 

Whereas, The YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh has been one of the leading agencies dedicated to serving the community by raising breast cancer awareness; and

 

Whereas, the ENCOREplus is a community-based program, lead by Yvonne Durham, that aids women in need of early detection education and breast and cervical cancer screening and support services; and,

 

Whereas, the Encoreplus program is designed to eliminate inequalities in health care experienced by many women by removing barriers to access and promoting effective community-based outreach, education, referral to clinical services and support systems; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby commends the YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh ENCOREplus program's dedication and encouragement for women and their families in their fight against breast cancer.
