WHEREAS, the annual observance of National Catholic Schools Week (CSW) began in 1974, by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), and begins the last Sunday in January; and,
WHEREAS, this year’s theme is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” which will focus on the important spiritual, academic and societal contributions made by Catholic schools; and,
WHEREAS, Catholic schools exist to promote Gospel values, build the community and promote service by emphasizing critical thinking skills, problem solving and decision making; and,
WHEREAS, 99% of students who attend Catholic high school graduate and, of those, 86% go on to attend a 4-year college; all indications to conclude that Catholic Schools are producing extraordinary young people who are successful and committed to their future; and,
WHEREAS, we recognize the Catholic Schools in the City of Pittsburgh who pride themselves in providing a well-rounded education to all students, with service to others as a central aspect to their training; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh for its commitment to excellence in spiritual and academic instruction; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, January 28 - Saturday, February 3, to be “Catholic Schools Week” in the City of Pittsburgh.
