WHEREAS, in 2003 the Homewood Brushton Branch of the Carnegie Library closed for renovations-re opening their doors nine months and 3.5million dollars later to a new, family friendlier Carnegie Library; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, April 8, 2005 in the early hours of the morning, a fire erupted, causing a four alarm fire. Trucks arrived from several locations to battle the blaze which was coming from the rooftop; and
WHEREAS, Fire fighters fought the blaze with extreme caution and respect, knowing the past and present historic value the community places on this 1910 building; and
WHEREAS, Fire Fighters gently axed the door to enter the building in hopes of saving the original fixture. They covered books and computers with tarp to keep any damage to a minimum. In addition, at least one truck stayed on the scene due to smoldering from the thickness of the insulation; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, recognizes and commends our Pittsburgh Fire Fighters of Stations four, six, seven ,eight, ten, twelve, fifteen, eighteen, Deputy Chief, two Battalion Chiefs and particularly Station seventeen for their exemplary service in keeping the Carnegie Library Homewood Brushton Branch Standing
