WHEREAS, on Sunday, April 3, 2005, Francis L. Laffey, Jr. will receive the Boy Scouts of America's highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award; and,
WHEREAS, Francis L. Laffey, Jr., the son of Connie Kamyk-Laffey and the late Francis L. Laffey, began his scouting career as a first grade cub scout at St. Raphael School's Troop 343 in Morningside; and
WHEREAS, in conjunction with his love for scouting, Francis is involved with various school and church activities. At Central Catholic High School where he is a Senior, Francis serves on the Executive Board of the Campus Ministry and is a leader in the Lasallian Youth Group, a community service organization where he volunteers countless hours after school and on week ends. He is also an altar server and a member of the St. Raphael Youth Group.
WHEREAS, for his Eagle Scout Project, Francis undertook the enormous task of renovating a storage room in the basement of St. Raphael Church and turning it into a meeting room for the East End Catholic Youth Ministry ; and,
WHEREAS, upon graduation from Central Catholic High School, Francis intends on attending St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize this outstanding young man, Francis L. Laffey, Jr. of Fort Pitt Troop 373, and commends him for his commitment to the betterment of his community and his great personal achievement.
