WHEREAS, Rosemary Shimp was born on June 30, 1919 in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh and grew up with her two sisters and two brothers; and,

WHEREAS, she graduated from St John the Baptist High School and worked on the draft board during WWII.  Rosemary later worked as a secretary at Western Psychiatric Hospital and retired after 6 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, Rosemary was married for 30 years. She and her husband never had any children, but enjoyed each other’s company; and,

 

WHEREAS, after her husband passed away at the age of 56, she moved to Mount Washington to live with her sister. She still resides there today with her only living sibling; and,

 

WHEREAS, Rosemary enjoys going to the Casino and reading.  She also enjoyed crocheting and traveling as a member of AARP, when she was able; and,

 

WHEREAS, at the age of 104, she is still very spry, cooking her own meals and doing her own laundry. Her secret to longevity is to Eat, Drink and Walk; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish Rosemary Shimp a happy 104th birthday and a joyful celebration; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Friday, June 30, 2023 to be “Rosemary Shimp Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
