Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and thank Bishop James M. Foster for his countless service and dedication to the spiritual well being of the congregation.

WHEREAS, James Miles Foster's passion for prayer, consecration, and total commitment to holiness as a way of life began at a young age.  He attended various church ministries and held many church responsibilities in his hometown of Ansley, Alabama; and

 

WHEREAS, after moving to Clairton, Pennsylvania, James served in various capacities at the Gethsemane Church of God in Christ before he acknowledged his call to ministry.  In 1962 he preached before the masses for the first time and soon after went on to serve as assistant pastor; and

 

WHEREAS, his personal friend and mentor, the late Bishop Ithiel Clemmons, guided him during his early years of ministry.  Reverend Foster later was ordained and appointed pastor of Trinity Church of God in Christ, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania by Bishop Gordon Vaughn; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1997, Reverend James Miles Foster was consecrated as Bishop of the Church of God In Christ, Inc, First Ecclesiastical Jurisdictional Western Pennsylvania.  As Bishop, he proves to be a visionary, a builder and a pastor of devotion and strength and shows his flock great wisdom, leadership, and organization; and

 

WHEREAS, one of Bishop Foster's greatest achievements is the establishment the Bishop James M. Foster Scholarship, which has gifted thousands of dollars in support of youth pursuing higher education in Western Pennsylvania.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and thank Bishop James M. Foster for his countless service and dedication to the spiritual well being of the congregation.
