Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Mary Beth Doheny for her bravery and courage during her time of adversity and honor her because of her commitment and support to others battling the same disease; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 11, 2011, to be "Mary Beth Doheny Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mary Beth Doheny graduated from Sacred Heart High School and has lived in Point Breeze all her life where she is a co-founder of the South Point Breeze Organization; she enjoys playing softball and loves to travel ; and,
 
WHEREAS, she has worked in the City Clerk's office for over thirty years beginning as an Administrative Assistant and is currently the Deputy City Clerk; and,
 
WHEREAS, in June, 2006, Mary Beth was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and will be celebrating her fifth year of remission in the spring of 2012; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Doheny is blessed with Tom and a big family support system of 1 brother and 6 sisters who helped to keep her optimistic about life and her future; and,    
 
WHEREAS, since her diagnosis, Mary Beth took it upon herself to learn more about the disease and researched her options before opting for chemotherapy first then surgery; and,       
 
WHEREAS, now, she is an advocate for early detection with mammograms which she strongly encourages to her family and friends and she stresses that cancer has no boundaries and it is no respecter of race, age or gender; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 11, 2011, to be "Mary Beth Doheny Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
