WHEREAS, to quote Robert South, "If there be an truer measure of a man than by what he does, it must be by what he gives"; and,
WHEREAS, Dan Romaniello has spent his life in the service of others, giving of his time and talents and incorporating his love of his family with a commitment to his community; and,
WHEREAS, Dan Romaniello worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 29 plus years as a Tunnel Maintainer at the Pittsburgh Tunnels, performing duties such as keeping the tunnels and roadways safe, putting out car fires, responding to accident scenes and even delivering a baby at the Liberty Tunnels ; and,
WHEREAS, Dan was the PennDot District 11 Safety Committee Chairman, a Delegate to the Allegheny County Labor Council while serving as an officer in the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union for 27 years, serving in every capacity from Secretary Treasurer to its President while also taking on the duties of Chief Steward until his retirement; and,
WHEREAS, in his "spare time", Dan Romaniello has served as President of St. Catherine of Sienna PTG, Executive Board Member of the Beechview Athletic Association, Assistant Den Leader of Cub Scout Pack 165, Coach of Bloomfield Girls Softball, Beechview Girls Softball, Beechview Soccer, and St. Catherine of Sienna Varsity Basketball; and,
WHEREAS, Dan Romaniello is also a Board Member of the Brookline Area Community Council, a Board Member of the Italian American Heritage Society of America, is a Lector at St. Catherine Church and delivers Meals on Wheels; and,
WHEREAS, if that were not enough community dedication, Dan Romaniello has served his community by sitting as a Director on the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize that Dan Romaniello has stood in this Chamber countless times honoring other people while he quietly worked in the background to make his ...
